Brief
History
-
Chatter
Creek Lodge is a new Cat Skiing operation located in the Rockies,
North of Golden B.C. This operation has been developed by a small
group of local residents whose experience in the industry and location
will provide clients with a truly unique mountain experience. The
area covers about 50 square miles, in some of the most exciting mountain
terrain currently available in the Cat Skiing industry. Historically
the Rockies are known more for their impressive views than large amounts
of snow. Chatter Creek happens to be situated where abnormally large,
frequent snowstorms blanket the area with up to 4 meters of settled
snow annually. This combined with long glacier runs and excellent
tree skiing, will thrill even the most experience powder skiers.
-
Chatter
Creek is located centrally with the Columbia Icefields to the
north, the Great Divide to the east, the Selkirks and Rogers Pass
to the
west. Our weather is cooler than the Okanagan and south Kootenays,
and higher in elevation which makes the snow drier and the area is
less likely to encounter rain in the winter. Winter lasts well into
April.
-
Because of the immense 50 square mile area, the glacier runs, avalanche
terrain and the dangers & thrills of such a huge uncontrolled wilderness,
guest trips be led by our experienced guides. Cat skiing will be guided
by qualified guides. We will require that all guests understand the
use of an Avalanche Transceiver while operating out of Chatter Creek
Lodge. Safety is our first priority, without removing the adventure
of Cat Skiing.
- During
the 99/00 winter season we were able to attract two different media
groups. Powder Magazine spent 4 days at Chatter Creek, ripping up the
virgin slopes, and taking a little air in preparation for an article
on the lodge & skiing in the November 2000 magazine. "Slednecks
3" the movie will contain extensive footage of the area and the
newest craze in the sledding Industry, "huge air time".
Two cat skiing operations have offered to send their extra skiers our
way and now we hear that Outside Magazine and many more marketing articles
are helping us get our start. We appreciate all the help that we've
received and the genuine interest in this project.
- The
web site has been very useful and we continue to update it as we get
new material. It will continue changing over the winter, with new photos
and new ideas. Stay Tuned!
