Fabled characters of the Old West stand tall against the magnificent mountains of Wyoming and Montana

SATURDAY Spokane, Washington Arrive at your leisure at the Spokane Airport and transfer to the WestCoast Grand Hotel. This evening, join the reception hosted by your Montana Rockies Rail Tours representative.

SUNDAY Spokane to Missoula, Montana After your continental breakfast you'll board a motorcoach and transfer to Sandpoint for your first day of rail adventure onboard the Montana Daylight. Today's rail route follows the beautiful shores of Lake Pend Oreille and the Clark Fork River, and is surrounded by three rugged mountain ranges: the Selkirks, the Bitterroots, and the Cabinets. You'll enjoy a delicious lunch of chef-prepared regional fare served on the train en route to your overnight stay at your Missoula hotel. This evening, you're welcome to join our walking tour to the hand-carved Carousel for Missoula. (CB, L)

MONDAY Missoula to Livingston, Montana After continental breakfast at the hotel you'll board the Montana Daylight for the second day of your rail journey, filled with rugged mountains, historic sights, spectacular trestles and crystal clear streams. The tracks follow the route of Lewis and Clark's Corps of Discovery through the Missouri River Canyon to Bozeman, over the Bridger Mountains to Livingston. On arrival in Livingston, enjoy a tour of the historic Livingston Depot Center, then transfer to the Yellowstone Inn. Pick up your rental car at the hotel. (CB, L)

TUESDAY Livingston to Yellowstone National Park After breakfast, drive south to Gardiner and enter Yellowstone National Park through the historic arch dedicated by Teddy Roosevelt in 1903 (NOTE: Entrance fees not included). Your first stop is Mammoth Hot Springs where you can view the steaming pools and natural terraces formed by mineral rich waters. Next you'll pass Norris Geyser Basin en route to Old Faithful, a perfect lunch stop and time to view the geyser. Following the Circle of Fire route this afternoon, arrive at Lake Yellowstone Hotel on the shores of Yellowstone Lake, to begin a two-night stay. (CB)

WEDNESDAY Yellowstone National Park Today is yours to enjoy at your own pace. Options abound, including a drive to Yellowstone Falls and Canyon, a guided walk with a park naturalist, or simply relax and enjoy your peaceful setting at Lake Yellowstone Hotel. (CB)

THURSDAY Yellowstone to Cody, Wyoming Take your time this morning and enjoy a leisurely continental breakfast prior to departure from Yellowstone. Travel east over Sylvan Pass (8,530 feet) and follow the Shoshone Canyon to Cody, Wyoming, the home of Buffalo Bill. Visit the Buffalo Bill Historical Center, take in the Cody Gunslingers in front of the famous Irma Hotel. Don't miss the nightly rodeo. (optional, June 1 - Aug. 31). (CB)

FRIDAY Cody to Sheridan, Wyoming After breakfast, depart Cody for a stunning drive into the Bighorn Mountains (NOTE: Tour takes an alternate route if the road is closed due to snow) and Medicine Wheel National Historic Site, a mysterious remnant of Native American culture estimated to be over 7,500 years old. Continue to Sheridan for your overnight stay. Consider the 35-mile side trip to the historic village of Buffalo to learn how wild the west could really be. (CB)

SATURDAY Sheridan to Billings, Montana After a leisurely continental breakfast, depart Sheridan northbound to the Crow Agency and visit the Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument. On this site, in 1876, Lt. Col. George Custer charged against the largest American Indian encampment of Lakota Sioux and Cheyenne ever gathered. Custer and his men were defeated on this site. The battlefield and cemetery are managed by the National Park Service, and rangers are on hand to provide interpretive information. Continue north this afternoon to Billings, Montana's largest city and heart of Montana's cattle country, overnight at the Historic Northern Hotel. (CB)
