- What
do non-escorted tours include?
Just about everything! Tours include the magnificent Rocky Mountaineer
Railtours adventure, hotels, sightseeing, and comfortable motorcoaches
that take you from place to place, complete with commentary. We do
the planning so you can enjoy yourself. Although you don't have a
guide, someone to answer your questions is as close as a phone call
away.
- What
is the best time to travel through the Canadian Rockies?
With Rocky Mountaineer Railtours, every season offers unique advantages.
For instance, June is 'Springtime in the Rockies' with snow on the
mountaintops and flowers beginning to bloom. April, May and October
offer tremendous savings. Rocky Mountaineer Railtours is proud to
offer several breathtaking Canadian Rockies Winter Rail Adventures
operating over the holiday season. Canada's outstanding winter scenery
is at its peak and a Rocky Mountaineer rail tour is the best way to
experience it. Full tour details are available by contacting us.
- How
far do we travel on the train?
About 442 km (275 miles) each day - all in daylight.
- What
will the weather be like-and what should I pack?
In Alberta and British Columbia, temperatures vary significantly depending
on location, time of day, and season. Summer temperatures range from
a low of 10°C (50° F) to a high of 30° C (90° F). Plan to bring a
sweater, slacks, and a light topcoat or raincoat, as well as lightweight
summer wear. Pack sturdy comfortable shoes, especially if you plan
to walk in the mountains. In spring and fall, include a light coat
or warm jacket if you're travelling to high altitudes.
- Do
you have sleeper cars?
No. Our daylight railtours through the Canadian Rockies are scheduled
to show you the spectacular scenery. After a day on the train, you
overnight in comfortable accommodations in the city of Kamloops, British
Columbia. This is your opportunity to stretch your legs, explore this
lakeside city or join the fun at Two River Junction Dinner and Musical
Revue.
- Are
we able to move within the train?
One of the advantages of train travel is the spacious room afforded
to all passengers. The leg room in all coaches will pleasantly surprise
you. RedLeaf Service passengers are able to move through their own
coach, stretch their legs and enjoy fresh air vestibules. Access to
GoldLeaf dome coaches is limited to those guests reserving GoldLeaf
Service.
- Can
I add an Alaskan Cruise to the Rocky Mountaineer
Absolutely. An Alaskan cruise that sails from Vancouver is the perfect
complement to a Rocky Mountaineer tour. Railtour and cruise seasons
are very similar. We can assist you in your planning of your "Rail
and Sail" vacation. click here for Alaska

- How
can I get updated information on your tours?
Your best source of information is your contact at PureWest Lifestyles
and Adventures. You can call us at or
email us at :
- Are
you able to handle special group requests?
Absolutely! Customized itineraries can be arranged for special interest
groups or incentive tours ranging from 15-600 guests. Or let us make
your Meeting in Motion on Rocky Mountaineer Railtours the most memorable
one yet.
- What
is the GST?
The Goods and Services Tax is applicable to all purchases. Refer to
Terms & Conditions for more details.
- What
are the clothing requirements on the trip?
Depending on the time of year, the clothing requirements vary. One
word though... layers. The tour ventures deep in to the Rockies and
even in mid-summer it can be a bit chilly. During the summer and early
fall we recommend a variety of clothing ranging from shorts and t-shirts
to long sleeves and a rain jacket. In the winter and spring you can
count on it being downright cold at times, particularly at night.
Layering would be the key here. In spring the days can sometimes get
quite warm but it is quite common to get snow right up until June
so be prepared with a warm jacket and mittens for your outdoor adventures.
- How
much leg room on is there on the GoldLeaf and RedLeaf coaches?
Ample leg room is provided in both RedLeaf and GoldLeaf coaches -
far more than is found in most first class sections of an airplane.
Be prepared for a fully reclining and relaxing vacation.
- Where
do I find tour prices?
You can find tour prices on our Web site under the main tour
listing page , click
on the name of the tour and it will take to a detailed description
of the tour, intinerary and prices in both Canadian and
US dollars.
- Is
smoking permitted on the train and in the hotel rooms?
To ensure the preservation of the fragile environment of the areas
in which we travel and for the comfort of all guests and employees,
there is no smoking onboard Rocky Mountaineer Railtours. This includes
the vestibules between the coaches and restroom facilities. The hotels
do have limited smoking rooms available so please make sure you indicate
your preference to the reservations agent when you book your tour.
- Are
children allowed on the train?
We do remind guests that the travel days are eight hours long and
might be a bit difficult for children to sit still for. During the
summer months we strongly recommend that parents bring activities
for their children while onboard the train. Our winter tours include
many children's activities and a visit by Santa Claus.
- Are
both the RedLeaf and GoldLeaf coaches accessible by wheelchair?
We have excellent wheelchair facilities for both services. There are
areas where a wheelchair can be secured in place and have very easy
access to the wheelchair accessible washrooms. We have wheelchair
lifters at all stations and the GoldLeaf dome coaches are equipped
with interior ADA-style elevators. All we ask is that we are informed
at the time of booking of the extent of the disability so we can guarantee
that all plans are in place to ensure the vacation experience is a
pleasant one.
- Can
I use my laptop computer on the train?
We do not have plugs at the seats for laptop use. Depending on your
battery life, we suggest that you charge you computer at night during
your hotel stays for use onboard the train. Besides, if you're busy
staring at your computer screen you'll miss the spectacular views!
- Can
I arrange for a car rental in Vancouver or Calgary?
Absolutely! Please contact our reservations agent on the telephone
at in the USA or Canada or you can email us at
and we would be happy to help you arrange for your car rental
needs.
