In Alberta and British Columbia, temperatures vary significantly depending on location, time of day, and season. Summer temperatures range from a low of 10°C (50° F) to a high of 30° C (90° F). Plan to bring a sweater, slacks, and a light topcoat or raincoat, as well as lightweight summer wear. Pack sturdy comfortable shoes, especially if you plan to walk in the mountains. In spring and fall, include a light coat or warm jacket if you're travelling to high altitudes.

The Goods and Services Tax is applicable to all purchases. Refer to Terms & Conditions for more details.

  11. What are the clothing requirements on the trip?
Depending on the time of year, the clothing requirements vary. One word though... layers. The tour ventures deep in to the Rockies and even in mid-summer it can be a bit chilly. During the summer and early fall we recommend a variety of clothing ranging from shorts and t-shirts to long sleeves and a rain jacket. In the winter and spring you can count on it being downright cold at times, particularly at night. Layering would be the key here. In spring the days can sometimes get quite warm but it is quite common to get snow right up until June so be prepared with a warm jacket and mittens for your outdoor adventures.

  12. How much leg room on is there on the GoldLeaf and RedLeaf coaches?
Ample leg room is provided in both RedLeaf and GoldLeaf coaches - far more than is found in most first class sections of an airplane. Be prepared for a fully reclining and relaxing vacation.

  13. Where do I find tour prices?

, click on the name of the tour and it will take to a detailed description of the tour, intinerary and prices in both Canadian and US dollars.

  14. Is smoking permitted on the train and in the hotel rooms?
To ensure the preservation of the fragile environment of the areas in which we travel and for the comfort of all guests and employees, there is no smoking onboard Rocky Mountaineer Railtours. This includes the vestibules between the coaches and restroom facilities. The hotels do have limited smoking rooms available so please make sure you indicate your preference to the reservations agent when you book your tour.

  15. Are children allowed on the train?
We do remind guests that the travel days are eight hours long and might be a bit difficult for children to sit still for. During the summer months we strongly recommend that parents bring activities for their children while onboard the train. Our winter tours include many children's activities and a visit by Santa Claus.

  16. Are both the RedLeaf and GoldLeaf coaches accessible by wheelchair?
We have excellent wheelchair facilities for both services. There are areas where a wheelchair can be secured in place and have very easy access to the wheelchair accessible washrooms. We have wheelchair lifters at all stations and the GoldLeaf dome coaches are equipped with interior ADA-style elevators. All we ask is that we are informed at the time of booking of the extent of the disability so we can guarantee that all plans are in place to ensure the vacation experience is a pleasant one.

  17. Can I use my laptop computer on the train?
We do not have plugs at the seats for laptop use. Depending on your battery life, we suggest that you charge you computer at night during your hotel stays for use onboard the train. Besides, if you're busy staring at your computer screen you'll miss the spectacular views!
